Estimation of Thermal Hazard Potential in Pharmaceutical Production

Accelerating Rate Calorimetry (ARC) is the technology to study the hazardous potential of chemicals. In case of an exothermal decomposition  reaction of a chemical or pharmaceutical compound or mixture, ARC allows to determine important parameters such as the starting temperature of the reaction under adiabatic conditions, the maximum temperature rise or the time to maximum reaction rate.

Ekkehard Füglein studied chemistry at the University of Würzburg (Germany), focusing on solid-state chemistry and materials science. After his graduation, he worked as a post-doctoral researcher at the Technical University of Vienna, Austria, before he started his career in industry. He has meanwhile an experience in thermal analysis of more than 20 years and holds currently the position as Head of the Customer Training Department at NETSCH Analyzing & Testing in Selb, Germany. Parallel to this, he works as an associate lecturer at the Nuremberg University of Applied Sciences.
